Harriet Goldman is a retired Speech/Language Pathologist. Ms. Goldman spent 33 years working for the NYC school system as a Speech/Language Teacher, Speech/Language Evaluator, and eventually as a Speech/Language Supervisor for several school districts in Queens NY. Her responsibilities included diagnosis and treatment of students with communication disorders.

Ms. Goldman became a dog owner after retiring in 2006. Archie is her second dog. Her first dog, a Tibetan Terrier named Domino, succumbed to lymphoma in 2021 at the age of 15. Ms. Goldman was grief stricken after losing Domino. She felt lost without him and adopted Archie approximately two months later.

Ms. Goldman, her husband Joel Shulman, and Archie are snow birds. They live in Melville NY during the Summer, Spring and early Fall. They spend the winter months in Delray Beach Florida. During her career, Ms. Goldman worked with students who lacked sufficient verbal skills. This broadened Ms. Goldman’s ability to understand aspects of total communication that are shared by both people and animals. Some of these shared total communication strategies include eye contact, body language, gestures, and vocalization of different sounds and tones. Ms. Goldman believes that if you listen and watch you can understand what your dog is saying.
